Where We Started —
Where We Are Going

Follow the Rise and Rear Project from its founding moment in 2025 to our ambitious vision for 2030 and beyond.

Early 2025 — The Beginning
Rise and Rear Project Founded
Nthangala Farms officially launches the Rise and Rear Project on its 7-acre farm in Nakuwawa, Kalifasi Village, Lilongwe Rural. The vision: empower 100 vulnerable women through sustainable pig farming, practical training, and livestock support by 2030.
Completed
2025 — First Milestone
Piggery Construction Begins
Ground breaks on the 24m × 12m piggery building designed to house 100 pigs across 10 pens. Local red-clay bricks are laid, corner pillars reinforced, and the perimeter walls rise from the Malawian soil. Photos document the progress, credited to KAY ZOSPAR.

2025 — Milestone Achieved
First 10 Women Receive Piglets
Ten women from the community — including first recipient Enifa Macheso — receive starter piglets from Nthangala Farms. This marks the project’s first tangible act of empowerment: placing productive assets directly in the hands of vulnerable women and their families.

Funding Drive: Complete the Piggery
We are actively seeking support to complete the piggery structure (roofing, concrete floors, drainage), drill the borehole pump, install 2 × 2,000-litre water tanks, and fit a 2.5 kW solar power system on the piggery roof. Your support moves us from foundation to full operation.

2026 — Round 2
20 More Women Trained & Pig Farm Operational
With the piggery complete and water & solar infrastructure running, the second cohort of 20 women joins the farm for 3-month practical training, earning hourly wages and graduating with starter piglets to launch their own enterprises.

Porkarino Opens — Meat Outlet & Processing
Porkarino, our premium pig-meat outlet, opens its doors. A full meat processing operation handling pork chops, sausages, cured meats, and value-added products. Porkarino creates additional jobs, absorbs farm output, and builds the Nthangala brand into a commercial force in Lilongwe.

2028–2030 — The Goal
100 Women Empowered by 2030
Five rounds, 20 women each, 100 families transformed. Each graduate carries forward the skills, livestock, and confidence to build a sustainable income. The pass-on model means their piglets seed the next generation of women farmers — creating a ripple of empowerment across Lilongwe Rural.

Every Woman, a Future

The Rise and Rear Project began with a simple but powerful act: placing two piglets in the hands of a woman who had never owned livestock before. Today, 10 women across the Nakuwawa community are raising pigs, earning income, and building confidence.

Each woman receives starter piglets, on-farm training, veterinary support, and access to the Nthangala Farms market network. As their pigs breed, they pass offspring back to the programme — seeding the next cohort of empowered women.

Our goal: 100 women empowered by 2030 across 5 training rounds.

A Farm That
Transforms Lives

The Rise and Rear Project is more than livestock — it is a catalyst for lasting economic independence, food security, and community dignity across Lilongwe Rural.

🏩
2025 — 2030
100 Women, 100 Families
Five rounds of 20 women each receive training, wages, and starter piglets on the 7-acre Nthangala farm. Each graduate becomes a farmer, a breadwinner, and a mentor for the next cohort.
Proposed Infrastructure
Solar-Powered, Water-Secure
A 2.5 kW solar array on the piggery roof and a drilled borehole with 4,000 litres of water storage will power the farm sustainably — eliminating fuel costs and securing water for all 100 pigs year-round.
🍖
2026 — 2027
Porkarino — Farm to Fork
Our meat outlet closes the value chain: pigs raised on-farm, processed in our facility, sold under the Porkarino brand. Jobs for trained women, revenue for the project, quality pork for Malawi.
🌿
The Pass-On Model
Pigs That Multiply Opportunity
